Day Care for Elderly
Thoughts from a family
Sometimes everyone needs a break. Whether you care for a parent or partner every day, work alongside your caring role, or simply want your loved one to enjoy good company and a change of scene, our day care at Somerforde gives you both exactly that.
Day care means your loved one can join us at the home for the day, enjoy a warm welcome, a proper home-cooked meal, and the company of others, all with trained carers close by. At the end of the day they come home again. You get time to rest, work, or catch up on life, knowing they are safe and well looked after.
Somerforde is a family-run residential care home in Newton Abbot, rated Good by the Care Quality Commission. The same care and attention we give the people who live with us, we give to every day guest.
What is elderly day care, and who is it for?
Day care is simply a booked day at the home, without staying overnight. It suits older people who would benefit from company, a safe environment, and a helping hand during the day, including people who:
• live alone and can feel isolated or lonely
• have become frailer and would enjoy some support and company during the day
• are recovering after a stay in hospital and are not quite ready to be on their own all day
• have a husband, wife, son, or daughter who needs regular time to rest or work
You can come for a single day to try it, or make it a regular part of the week. Get in touch and we will help you find what works for your family.
A day at Somerforde
From the moment your loved one arrives, they are part of the Somerforde family. A typical day includes a warm welcome and a cup of tea, time to relax in comfortable surroundings, activities and conversation with others, and a freshly prepared meal cooked by our in-house chefs.
Our trained carers are always close by, so there is a kind, capable hand on hand throughout the day, and everything is done calmly and with dignity.
A real break for family carers
Caring for someone you love is one of the most generous things a person can do, and also one of the most tiring. Day care is not a sign that you are struggling. It is a sensible, healthy way to keep going. While your loved one is with us, you can go to work, keep an appointment, see friends, or simply rest, and collect them later knowing they have had a good day. Many families use day care as a gentle first step, a way for a loved one to get to know us before any thought of respite or residential care.
Why families choose Somerforde
We are family-run, and we treat the home as exactly that, a family. We are rated Good by the Care Quality Commission, so you have independent reassurance about the quality and safety of our care. Our meals are cooked fresh in-house by our own chefs, not delivered in trays. And because families can securely view our care records online, you can see how your loved one’s day has gone. We founded Somerforde on one simple question: would we be happy for our own parents to live here? Every day guest is welcomed on the same terms.
